Choosing the right lawn feed is crucial for the continued growth and health of your lawn. During the summer, the grass roots needs to have a steady supply of nutrients, which will see them well during the winter months when feeding can’t necessarily be carried out.
There are various lawn feeds on the market, which cater to various needs, depending on what the lawn is like. Below, you’ll find my favourite lawn feeds and my recommendations as to why you should consider them.
Richard Jackson Lawn Magic Feed
I’ve covered Richard Jackson’s Lawn Magic separately in this review. However, for those short of time, I’ll summarise here as to why I think it’s a lawn feed that you should consider.
The first reason to consider it is the cost. It is able to cover up to 500m2 per bottle. The price for this is around the £35 mark (prices can and will change during the spring and summer) which actually makes it the cheapest lawn feed on this list.
In addition to this, the quality of the product is second to none. Not only does it make the grass a lot stronger, and by extension, the roots of them, it rejuvenates tired and neglected lawns. The level of rejuvenation depends on how long the lawn has been neglected for, as well as the interval periods when using Lawn Magic. However, when I’ve used it, I’ve been blown away by the quality of the results. It made the garden look as though it had been treated by a landscape gardener, who would have charged a lot more than what I paid for one container of Lawn Magic.
One thing to note though is that it doesn’t have the ability to kill off moss, so if you’re also needing this, then you’ll either need to buy a dedicated moss remover, or buy a feed that also has a moss remover in it.
It’s very easy to apply and the results were really quick to take place. It’s highly recommended by me.

Miracle-Gro Natural 4 in 1 Lawn Feed
Miracle-Gro have been in the garden care scene for longer than I’ve been alive, so it’s clear that they’re doing something right! They have a variety of lawn products available, but I really like their Natural 4 in 1 Lawn Feed for a few reasons.
The first is that it can kill off moss and also greatly inhibit weed growth (and even kill smaller weeds in my experience). This is great for those that are plagued by weeds and moss in their garden.
Tied to this is the fact that since it’s natural, it is safe for children and pets to be on the grass. This is after it has been fed and then watered enough to disperse and dried the granules into the soil.
Unlike the Lawn Magic above, Natural 4 in 1 is applied in its granular form instead. When applying it, you can use a spreader if you like, but personally I found it easy enough to apply this by hand. You do need to wear protective gloves whilst doing so. For smaller gardens, hand application is not an issue and can be done relatively quickly.
In terms of results, I found that it took just under 2 weeks for the grass to be greener. However, when using it on a moss riddled lawn that belongs to a friend of mine, the moss had turned black in 2 days, allowing it to be raked away with ease.
It is more expensive than the Lawn Magic above, however, it is a great multi-use product that will make your grass look greener. It also made the roots on the lawn a lot stronger as well, which is a bonus in my book. When using it side by side with Lawn Magic, I would say that Lawn Magic was just a bit greener.
However, Natural 4 in 1 transformed a neglected lawn into a really magnificent looking one, and since the application last year, there hasn’t been any weeds popping up.

Aftercut All In One Lawn Feed, Weed and Moss Killer
Aftercut is another highly reputable brand that that has been on the gardening scene for years.
They have a variety of different lawn feeds, but for an all rounder that offers good performance, this is a solid choice.
Much like the Miracle-Gro above, it is a granule based feed as opposed to a liquid one like the Lawn Magic. It is relatively easy to spread and the results from it are good. I personally noticed that the lawn looked greener ten days after use.
What I was impressed with though was it’s ability to kill weeds and moss. I used it on a lawn that was really neglected and it transformed it. You can get a greener lawn when using Lawn Magic, but the weeds were completely eradicted. I would suggest that if you’re needing a high quality weed killer that won’t damage the grass, Aftercut All in One should be used. Then, funds permitting, you could follow up with Lawn Magic to really bring the green up in the grass as well.
It also performed well in removing moss from the grass, but I would say that Miracle-Gro 4 in 1 had the edge when it comes to moss removal. One pack is enough for 85m2.
